Meet the Owners: Among The Wildflowers
Katy and Anthony are a husband-wife team, working together on weddings and events to create stunning designs and installations.
Katy got started in florals in 2014 working with Julia’s Florist and then at Whole Foods managing wedding florals. She started her own company with the help and support of her husband, Anthony, in 2018. I got the chance to sit down with them for a little Q+A, and here is what they had to share.
WW: What is the first step that you take with your clients?
Katy: We start with a phone consultation to learn more about their vision and style. Often times, we have couples send us their Pinterest board or color scheme and begin there. Florals can be seasonally limited or affected by heat so that is another thing to consider when planning outdoor events.
WW: What is your husband, Anthony’s role in the business?
Katy: Floral installations can be complicated and require a bit of engineering at times. Anthony always comes up with crafty solutions and ideas, and I love to watch him create and design beautiful installations for our clients.
WW: What is the price range for florals?
Katy: For the standard wedding with floral installations, pricing typically ranges from $1,500 to $6,000. We can also accommodate more basic packages for pick up (bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, toss petals) that don’t include installs. Often times, florals can be repurposed (bridesmaid bouquets can become center pieces for the table, outdoor/arbor florals can be brought in for the sweetheart table or elsewhere, etc.
WW: For couples that are looking to have gorgeous florals but do it in a way that is most economical, what would you recommend?
Katy: Seasonal blooms are more economical, or swapping look-a-like greenery or flowers can reduce the price, however, some people are heart set on a certain flower that has a special significance to them and may choose to be more specific. The one common misconception a lot of people have is that doing silk flowers will be cheaper than fresh flowers- and almost always they are not and don’t provide the same visual appeal as the real deal.
WW: Big thank you to Katy and Anthony for taking the time to chat and provide some insight their floral design process!
